What you see at the Hurghada Grand Aquarium
What's on show can change over time; the tunnel and the ocean tank are the reasons to go.
- The underwater tunnel: the highlight. You walk through a glass tunnel with the fish all around and above you, including sharks, rays and big groupers.
- The ocean tank: a huge tank with shoals of fish from the Red Sea and other seas, good for photos.
- The touch pool: children can touch starfish and sea urchins under the eye of the staff.
- The rainforest and mini zoo: an indoor jungle area and small animal enclosures. They're smaller than the aquarium itself, so see them as a bonus.
- A Bedouin tent: a replica that shows how desert families live.
How a visit with us works
Send us your date, how many adults and children you are and your hotel. We reply with the price, the pickup time and what's included, and once you confirm we take care of the transfer. Plan about one to two hours inside; most families find that enough.
It combines well with Sand City, the open-air museum of giant sand sculptures, for a family half day, or with a relaxed evening on the Marina on a Hurghada city tour.
Tips for your visit
- Go when the beach isn't at its best: a windy day, a cloudy morning or the hottest hours of a summer afternoon
- Switch off the flash: the photos come out better through the glass and it's kinder to the animals
- Ask before touching anything outside the touch pool
- Bring a light layer: indoor areas can feel cool after the heat outside
From the aquarium to the real reef
Many of the fish in the tanks live on the reefs just off Hurghada. If the aquarium makes you curious, see them in the wild: our island trips to Orange Bay and Paradise Island include two snorkeling stops with a guide, and a glass bottom boat or semi-submarine shows you the reef without getting wet, which is ideal for small children and non-swimmers.
